Is it time to pack away the jumpers and scarfs and get out the T shirts and shorts? I always do this when we get a few nice days of sun thinking 'that's it! I don't need my tartan kilts and winter boots now'... and then a few days later need to get them out again when the weather cools.
So this year I'm holding off the wardrobe swap over until the last minute.
Anyway, with Summer on it's way I've been stressing on what I'm going to take to wear on holiday. I've not had a holiday for about 3 years so really looking forward to this one. It might only be for five days but I'm going to make the most of it! The only thing is, I've worn the same swimwear for a few years running and I'm after something different and a bit more vintage / retro.
After looking for new vintage inspired swimwear I found that it was mostly 1950's pin up style everywhere and there's not much in the way of 60's /70's unless I wanted to pay a fortune. So I ended up buying vintage ones on Ebay, there's a lot more choice and I found some very groovy patterns. I was a bit wary at first buying second hand swimwear so I made a point of washing and soaked in bleach a few times to get them really clean.
The first one I bought was too small in the body so I decided to turn it into a bikini. I cut it in half, sewed elastic into the bottoms to make into pants and used the excess material to create a strap across the back which I then sewed on a bikini clasp. Then I thought the top was a bit too short so added some blue fringing around it. I'm quite happy with the outcome as I'd never sewed with elastic before this, or altered anything like this in the past so if I can do it, anyone can!
Get that sewing machine out girls!
